Gulf Employment Outlook for 2024
Posted on: 28/01/2024
The Middle East, and particularly the Gulf region, is not unduly plagued by worries about inflation and uncertain economic growth, in contrast to so many other regions of the world. Actually, the region's economies are flourishing.
The Gulf area is still a thriving center for both employers and job searchers. The employment market was noticeably active in 2023 as companies looked for expertise in a variety of industries.
The study by YI Consultancy explores the complex needs and preferences of businesses, providing insight into the dynamics of employment in the Gulf.
The research claims that the building and real estate industries in the United Arab Emirates led the way.
This increase is consistent with the region's continuous building boom. The internet, telecom, and IT sectors came in second and third, respectively.
Employers showed a high preference for engineers and salespeople, indicating a need for technical know-how and talent in customer-facing positions.
Additionally, entry-level professionals were noticeably preferred in the nation's labor market.
Not too long after, there was a significant need for senior-level knowledge. This dual focus highlights the need for employers to pursue both experienced workers and up-and-coming talent in a balanced manner.
Furthermore, the survey indicated that the most sought-after positions in 2023 were those of Sales, Project Managers, and corporate Analysts, indicating the nation's strong need for workers who can foster innovation and corporate expansion.
Additionally, employers stated that they looked for professionals skilled in business development to spearhead strategic growth efforts, stressed the importance of exceptional customer service skills, and gave preference to applicants with project management experience for strategic execution.
The EVP and Business Head of Naukrigulf.com, Sharad Sindhwani, made the following comment:
"The statistics for 2023 tells a fascinating story about the Gulf labor market. As we saw, companies in the UAE are actively looking for people with business development and customer service expertise—skills necessary to succeed in a fast-paced business environment. With the UAE still growing, our forecast for 2024 shows a persistent need for skilled labor, highlighting the region's adaptability and dedication to innovation in the labor market."
This year, certain patterns in the labor markets of the Gulf countries were apparent.
The oil, gas, chemical, and energy industries led Saudi Arabia's employment trend, with a particular need for engineers.
In a similar vein, Qatar demonstrated a reliance on energy, a rise in tech employment, and a need for positions in sales and business development.
The oil, gas, chemical, and energy sectors were clearly significant players in Oman as well.
Aside from this industry, Kuwait also demonstrated a focus on healthcare hiring, especially for roles at the senior level.
On the other hand, hiring in the real estate and construction industries was part of Bahrain's broad job market.
The distinct economic environments and priorities that influence the employment situations in each Gulf nation are reflected in these observations.
According to Amy Bassindale, senior business manager for Hays in the Gulf region, "all signs point to further growth in the Gulf region's economy, which is in strong shape." Governments are pursuing their long-term objectives and the economy is continuing to evolve despite the turmoil in the world economy. This is supported by data from the Hays GCC wage guide 2024, which shows that 67% of Gulf firms intend to increase staffing levels this year.
In 2024, will salaries rise?
This year's wage hikes for UAE workers are expected to be favorable, with specialists in recruitment projecting average raises of two (2) to five (5) percent.
But this varies depending on the industry and job of the person.
Concurrently, a survey conducted last month by market research firm YouGov and employment portal Bayt.com discovered that 53% of GCC workers anticipate a pay raise this year.
in 2023, per the study, which was conducted from November 16 to November 28 among 2,941 respondents from nations including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Jordan.
Any bonus this year?
Almost 75% of business leaders who replied to the Cooper Fitch salary guide poll stated they plan to reward workers for their excellent work over the past 12 months, which is good news for many employees looking to get a bonus in 2024.
Nevertheless, 26% of respondents—the bulk of whom were from the logistics and supply chain industry—will not be receiving an annual bonus.
Twenty (20%) percent of poll participants want to pay a bonus equivalent to two months' gross compensation, whilst thirty-six (36%) percent indicate they expect to pay a bonus equal to one month's gross salary.
In the meanwhile, 10% of respondents said they would give employees bonuses equivalent to up to three months' pay, 3% said they would give them four months, and 1% said they would give them five months.
“Learning to embrace a hybrid work model proves to be key in attracting and safeguarding employees,” Michael Page says.

That journey would have taken twelve hours ten years ago. We completed it in six hours, using six-lane highways and stopped at a number of reputable restaurants along the way. Just ten years prior, that had never been done

In response to the above Mr. Kumar Muthaiah pointed that "Narendra Modi Modi ji having friendship with USA, Israel and NATO can be fatal, considering their past history. Hope people do not forget Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombing by them, which killed 300,000 people in few seconds, which proved humanity can self destruct. I feel they are the actual terrorist, started several wars through fake propaganda through media, reason for slavery. They have military bases all over world and can manipulate things. Hope we do not forget Gandhi ji, who is an inspiration. Only LOVE can save humanity."

Manufacturing is becoming simpler overall. Land clearances from the government are less difficult to obtain, labor is more affordable, and industrial parks are generating their own dedicated power sources (reliable power availability has previously been a major difficulty).
We predict that enterprises aiming to expand their supply chains outside of China—a practice known as "China plus one"—will find India to be an appealing site. Despite this, it probably has a long way to go before it can contend with China as the world's foremost manufacturer. On the other hand, the future appears bright.

4. The Indian stock market has been expanding and should develop.
Behind China at 29% and Taiwan at 16% in the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, India makes up 14% of the overall index.2 Given India's economic trajectory, we predict that investment opportunities will grow, particularly in the small-cap sector.
An equity leader and chartered accountant Mr. Vaibhav Sanghavi is very much optimistic explaining that single window clearance to a project producing momentum and ease of business.
5. Real estate, banking, and industrial sectors all offer investment options
Profits should increase as a result of the sector's major structural change. Government initiatives have aided in eradicating unethical behavior and fostering customer confidence in the home-buying process. Additionally, many smaller developers were destroyed by a financial problem a few years ago. Together, a once-extremely chaotic market has grown more centralized and regulated.
India's digital transition in more detail
6. The main benefit is population
The volatility of the market would undoubtedly rise if that changed. But political parties from all ideologies are aware of the necessity of economic growth and job creation.
Despite this, we think India's basic outlook is arguably stronger than it has ever been. The economy is one of the fastest growing in the world, inflation is under control, the government has been fiscally responsible, and corruption levels are lower than they were ten years ago. These factors all favor the market. We believe it is achievable for the market to increase to these levels if Indian companies can produce the expected earnings and cash flows.
Although India's stock market has never followed a straight path, over longer time periods, it has produced some of the strongest returns among emerging and developed markets.

Microsoft titled "Will AI fix work?" 31 countries along with Indians are in favor of adopting AI to lessen the amount of labour!
Published on: 30-7-2023/12:39 am IST/Sunday
Microsoft has made available the findings of its prestigious Work Trend Index 2023 research for India. The "Will AI Fix Work?" The study's findings are based on a survey of 31,000 participants from a range of industries across 31 nations, including 14 markets in the Asia-Pacific. It also takes into account LinkedIn's labor patterns as well as various signals from emails, meetings, and conversations across Microsoft 365.
The research demonstrates that the pace of work has escalated beyond what humans can handle, which has an effect on innovation. According to the paper, AI is ready to Usher (Hearing and eyesight are both impacted by the rare hereditary illness known as Usher syndrome) in a completely new style of working, and businesses that adopt it first will break the cycle by boosting everyone's creativity and productivity.
As the nature of work changes, AI promises to be the biggest shift to work in our lives. With the drudgery ("a task requiring exertion or effort,")
out of our professions and us being freed to rediscover the joy of creation, the next generation of AI will unleash a fresh wave of productivity development. Every organization and leader has the chance and duty to use AI effectively by testing and experimenting with novel working methods in order to create a better working future for all.
To achieve this, it will be vital to not only invest in AI but also to make sure that each employee possesses the AI skills required to succeed in the modern workplace. remarked Bhaskar Basu, Microsoft India's country head for modern work. As business executives try to comprehend and safely implement AI for their organizations, the research also offers some critical insights.
The cost of drudgery debt is innovation
The volume of data, emails, and conversations has beyond our capacity to process it all, and as a result, all users are carrying digital debt. The research asserts that there is a chance to improve the effectiveness of the current communications.
According to the paper, every minute spent paying off this digital debt is a minute not spent on original work. Over 75% of Indian employees claim to not have enough time or energy to do their work. Three times as many of these individuals report having difficulty being creative.
In Microsoft 365, the typical user spends more than 40% of their time creating and just around 60% of their time interacting. Furthermore, an overwhelming 78% of Indian workers concur that they struggle to maintain uninterrupted focus during the workday.
A new partnership between AI and workers
While more than 80% of Indian workers are willing to hand over as much work as possible to the technology in order to lighten their burdens, over 75% of workers are concerned that AI would replace their jobs.
More than 3 out of 4 Indian workers indicated that they would feel at ease using AI, not just for administrative activities (86%) but also for analytical work (88%), and even creative aspects of their profession (87%).
When asked if they will feel at ease adopting AI for creative elements of their jobs, 100% of highly knowledgeable Indian creative people agreed. Indian managers, on the other hand, are 1.5 times more likely to believe that AI would benefit the workplace by increasing productivity rather than reducing manpower.
Importance of employee AI aptitude
The report also highlights the need for new core competencies, such as prompt engineering, in everyday work for all employees, not only AI specialists.
90% of Indian leaders stated that new skills will be required of the workers they hire in order to be ready for the development of AI.
Almost 80% of Indian workers claimed that they do not now possess the necessary skills to complete their profession utilizing AI.

This start-up CEO has some thoughts on the Indian job market after receiving over 3,000 resumes in only 48 hours.
Published on: 29_07_2023: 1:08 AM IST/ Saturday
Kartik Mandeville, the CEO of an IT business called Springworks, was left thinking this after receiving over 12,000 resumes for various remote job opportunities in the course of just 48 hours.
"Received over 3K resumes in the last 48 hours just on our website - how bad is the job market?" the businessperson tweeted.
He continued by saying that the job listings were exclusively placed on the corporate website and weren't shared on any well-known job portals like LinkedIn, Naukri, or Glassdoor. He disclosed that after the article went popular on the microblogging platform, he has received thousands more applications.
171K people viewed the article and it garnered 793 likes. When asked what positions were open, the entrepreneur replied that they included product, founder's office, and software engineer.
Another comment highlighted how depressing the work market in India is. "Fairly Bad. I can still picture myself entering a walk-in interview for an IT firm in Delhi. Not a big name, one of my relatives was in charge of the team interviewing candidates, and I was only there as a guest. 700 individuals showed up for about 20 jobs! And for 2.5 LPA as well. They're anticipating around 200," a user remarked.Another person noted that if businesses disclosed the minimum and maximum years of experience required from candidates as well as the salary range, the number of job applications would substantially decrease.
An IT business called Springworks supports HR processes like hiring, onboarding, and employee retention. The company has branches in Bengaluru but is based in Santa Monica, California, according to its LinkedIn profile.
