Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement procurement strategies for civil engineering projects, considering project specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.
2. Identify potential suppliers, solicit bids, and negotiate contracts for the procurement of subcontractor packages, equipment, and services.
3. Evaluate proposals, analyze cost factors, and make recommendations on the most suitable subcontractors and vendors.
4. Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering collaboration and ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment.
5. Conduct market research to identify new suppliers/ subcontractor, evaluate their capabilities, and assess their compliance with quality and safety standards.
6. Collaborate with project managers and engineers to determine project requirements, specifications, and timelines for procurement activities.
7. Conduct regular supplier/ subcontractors performance evaluations to ensure compliance with contract terms and quality expectations.
8. Resolve any issues or disputes with suppliers/ subcontractors, working closely with internal stakeholders to find effective solutions.
9. Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and technologies to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

Desired Candidate Profile

1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a Procurement Engineer or in a similar procurement role within the construction industry.
3. Solid understanding of civil engineering items, equipment, and services.
4. Knowledge of potential subcontractors for civil items (e.g. Joinery, Aluminium, Interior fitout items, False Ceiling, Painting, Landscaping, Waterproofing, Post Tensioning, Dewatering, Shoring & piling etc.)
5. Familiarity with procurement processes, including vendor selection, negotiation, and contract management.
6. Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate supplier proposals and make data-driven decisions.
7. Excellent negotiation and communication skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
8. Proficiency in using procurement software and tools for tracking and managing procurement activities.
9. Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
11. Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards in the construction industry.

JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

The Civils Inspector is responsible for the inspection of all civil structures which includes; Bridges, Underpasses, Culverts, Embankments, Service Roads, Sand Mitigation Systems and Fences along the railway corridor to ensure integrity of all structures and civil assets is maintained at all times.

The engineer must have knowledge of dynamical forced structures, in particular for concrete and earthworks and general civil engineering knowledge. Furthermore, he should have experience with sand accumulation and mitigation systems in a desert environment.

Role responsibilities as follows:

• In liaison with the Civil Reliability Supervisor be responsible for the execution of all tasks and inspection of Bridges, Underpasses, Culverts, Embankments, Service Roads, Mitigation Systems and Fences

• Ensuring the assets are maintained in accordance with the Asset Management Strategy.

• Ensuring all work is carried efficiently and safely with full adherence to all safe systems of work, company policies and rules.

• Review and record results of the inspections conducted and raise any notifications of any track defects and unsafe conditions found.

• In liaison with the Civil Reliability Supervisor and Engineer, determine if a civil structure must be protected by constructive support, by speed restriction on the line or if the line must be closed to traffic

• Ensures a safe working environment in accordance to the company regulations.

• Communication with the internal and external interfaces as necessary for repairs

• Communication with key stakeholders

• Represents the Civil Reliability Supervisor at meetings as directed.

REQUIREMENTS

• Candidate must hold a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering as well as have strong experience of conducting inspections of civil structures.

• You must be competent in writing reports, have good knowledge of SAP and MS Office Programs and the ability to deliver allocated elements of a Quality Management system.
